The adult reconstruction fellowship at Total Joint Specialists provides an immersive, yearlong clinical experience, focusing on modern hip and knee arthroplasty. This comprehensive program offers extensive training in both primary and revision joint replacement surgeries. Fellows engage in a wide spectrum of cases, including outpatient joint replacement, standard and complex joint revisions, and research opportunities.
A key component of the fellowship involves fellows leading a weekly X-ray conference, delving into contemporary topics in adult reconstruction and presenting teaching cases. Additionally, the learning experience is enriched through regular journal club meetings and guest speaker sessions.
Throughout the fellowship, fellows gain broad exposure to arthroplasty cases, performing an average of over 700 primary replacements and 100 revision cases. Surgeon faculty expertise spans various surgical hip approaches, primarily focusing on the anterior approach for both primary and revision surgeries. The program emphasizes proficiency in same-day surgery and rapid recovery at a specialized joint replacement ambulatory surgery center. Moreover, fellows receive exposure to current and emerging technologies, including diverse robotic platforms and custom implant design.
The fellowship runs from August 1 to July 31 of the following year. This non-ACGME-accredited position welcomes two fellows annually.
