Alexis Matrka Alva, M.D., is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Total Joint Specialists. At the office in Buford, Georgia, Dr. Alva specializes in hip and knee joint replacements.
Dr. Alva attended Columbia University for her undergraduate studies in engineering. She returned to her home state of Ohio to obtain her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She graduated summa cum laude and earned Alpha Omega Alpha honors, which acknowledges the top national medical students. Inspired by her late grandfather who was an orthopedic surgeon, she decided to pursue a career in orthopedics.
She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where she found her passion for helping patients with hip and knee arthritis return to their active lifestyles. She did her fellowship in hip and knee replacement surgery at the highly selective OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dr. Alva provides individualized care to each patient, emphasizing evidence-based practices and surgical precision. She specializes in minimally invasive direct anterior hip replacement, same-day joint replacement, robotic-assisted surgery, as well as complex revision reconstructions and replacements. Her philosophy of care centers on delivering respectful, compassionate, and high quality care. Dr. Alva enjoys building relationships with her patients, listening to their concerns, and helping them achieve their healthcare goals. She is set apart by her attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
Dr. Alva lives in Atlanta with her husband Roberto, a Georgia native. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, culinary experiences, running the Atlanta Beltline, and spending time with friends and family.
